1. Pull over safely
Move your vehicle onto the hard shoulder as far left as possible.
Turn on your hazard lights immediately.
If it’s safe, get out of the vehicle through the left-hand (passenger) side and stand behind the barrier.

📞 2. Call for assistance
You have two main options:
A. TII Motorway Emergency Line
There are SOS phones roughly every 1–2 km.If you use one, the call goes directly to the Motorway Traffic Control Centre.
or
B. Call your breakdown service or a recovery operator
You can phone your own provider (AA, insurance, etc.) or a private recovery company like CTTA Recovery.
3. Gardaí or Motorway Patrol may check on you
If your vehicle is in a dangerous position or causing obstruction, Gardaí or the M50 maintenance patrol may arrive to help manage traffic or keep the area safe.
4. Vehicle is recovered
If the car can’t be fixed roadside, it will be:
Towed to a safe area off the motorwayor
Transported to a garage of your choice, depending on who you call.
Extra things to know
Never attempt repairs on the live motorway lanes.
Stay behind the barrier until help arrives.
If you’re close to an exit, you still must pull into the hard shoulder — do not try to coast off the motorway.
